3 Classic Recipes That Beg For a Truffle Update

One of life’s greatest food delicacies are truffles. Truffles usually grow at the base of oak and hazelnut trees, although this can vary depending on the species of truffle. They are collected by specially trained dogs that use their noses to locate them. This unique harvesting process has caused truffles to be rather expensive. Fortunately, if you can’t afford truffles, truffle oil is a less expensive option. If you’re looking to vamp up your favorite pasta dish, pizza recipe, or burger, truffles are a great option.

Pasta

If you want to make a delicious pasta try making spaghetti tartufo with black truffles, olive oil and parmesan. This is a rather simple dish to make. You start off by cooking the pasta according to instructions given on the packaging. Next you put olive oil, garlic, and truffle in a fry pan on a medium heat. Be sure that you microplane the truffle to allow it to release it’s flavor. Add some butter and vegetable stock and then mix in the pasta. Parsley and lemon can be added for a nice flavor. Finish it off with parmesan and grated truffle.

Pizza

If you love mushrooms on your pizza, then you’ll love adding truffles. You have to make sure to prepare it right so it stays fresh. Your truffles can be shaved, slivered, or sliced. Mixing truffles with cheese really helps to bring out the flavor. Just make sure that you don’t add too many toppings as this can lessen the flavor of the truffles.

For a good truffle mushroom pizza, you can use white button, baby bella or portabella. For the sauce, you don’t want a traditional pizza sauce. Instead, use black truffle sauce with butter, flour, heavy whipping cream, parmesan cheese, paprika and black pepper.

Burgers

If you want a truly gourmet burger, then you need to try making a truffle burger. Fortunately, it’s the quality ingredients that make this burger gourmet, not the cooking difficulty. You can start by making a delicious truffle aioli. This mixture is spread on the burger buns. Make some ground beef patties and then top it with truffle, cheese or no cheese and glaze it with a mixture of tawny port, truffle oil, truffle salt. You can also finish with a drop of truffle butter.

With the addition of truffles, a simple meal becomes gourmet. Whether you add truffles to pasta, pizza, or a burger, your taste buds will definitely be on Cloud 9.
